Repair of an injured ligament through inflammatory, proliferative and remodeling phases, with variable duration and quality.
Physiology
Mechanism and function
Repaired tissue does not always reproduce the original organization. Ligament type, severity, stability and applied loads influence recovery.
Assessment and clinical implications
Activity progression depends on diagnosis and stability. A potentially unstable cervical injury requires specialist advice before mobilization or traction.
Points to consider
Tissue adaptation varies with composition, blood supply, age and loading. A laboratory biological response does not guarantee the same benefit in a person. Treatment selection depends on clinical evidence and functional goals beyond a proposed mechanism.
Role of TAGMED care
At TAGMED, assessment aims to understand symptoms, history and functional limitations. Manual care and osteopathy, motorized spinal decompression, laser and shockwave have different indications. The term described in this entry is not enough to select any of these modalities. Their relevance, limitations and possible contraindications should be discussed in relation to diagnosis and individual goals.
Related concepts and distinctions
These concepts belong to the same field, but are not synonyms.
- Mechanotransduction — Conversion of mechanical forces into biochemical cellular responses, contributing to tissue adaptation to its environment.
- Bone remodeling — Renewal of bone through coordinated resorption and formation, contributing to maintenance and adaptation.
- Intervertebral disc collagen — Collagen fibers within the disc matrix, contributing to mechanical strength and organization of the annulus and nucleus.
Conceptual guide: Ligament healing. Blocks summarize useful relationships; they are not an individual anatomical image.
